  SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (SPS) Windows SharePoint Services 2003 (WSS)
Legacy SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (SPS) is the successor to SPS 2001. It is an enterprise-class portal product and requires purchase of licenses and hardware. SharePoint Team Services 2001 (STS) was the free version of SharePoint that Microsoft released in 2001 when Portal Server 2001 was released. Windows SharePoint Services 2003 (WSS) is the successor to STS and is also free.
